For two quiet nights: Carnival’s three days

Carnival’s Hanoi: 3Day 5-Star Cruise Ha Long, Lan Ha & Viet Hai Cycling is the simplest of the four: two nights on board, a balcony cabin with a bathtub, a Jacuzzi on the sundeck, and a day in the middle split between Viet Hai village by bicycle or electric car and an afternoon of kayaking and swimming at Ba Trai Dao beach. The Dark and Light Cave by bamboo boat is on the first afternoon. The listing puts the taxes, insurance and sightseeing fees in the price; the US$25 shuttle from Hanoi is the main extra. Marvel Travel’s *Hanoi: 3-Day Ha Long/Lan Ha Bay Cruise with Private Balcony* starts with kayaking and a swim at Ao Ech in Lan Ha Bay on the first afternoon, spends day two at Viet Hai village and Ba Trai Dao from a day boat, and keeps the Dark and Bright Cave (or Trung Trang Cave) by bamboo boat for the last morning. It lists Wi-Fi on the bus, the boat and in the cabin. The price, from $306 (checked November 2026), does not include government VAT of US$25 a person, a US$20 peak-season charge from 1 October to 30 April, or the bus. Read the excluded list and it is a good cruise; skip it and it is a surprise.

For a walk on Cat Ba: Vega Legend

Vega Travel’s three days on the Vega Legend uses the middle day for the island rather than a beach: a bicycle ride to Viet Hai, then a 2.5 to 3 hour trek through the forest to Hai Quan Peak, a viewpoint over Ha Long, Lan Ha and Bai Tu Long bays at once, lunch ashore, the Bat Cave (the Military Hospital Cave) and a late-afternoon paddle through Tai Keo and Luon caves. On the first afternoon two-person kayaks go through narrow passages and, tide permitting, a tunnel grotto into a hidden lagoon. Hotel pickup in Hanoi is included. It is $360 each for two sharing, $650 for one guest alone (checked November 2026).

For Ninh Binh too: Carnival’s combination

If three days must also cover Ninh Binh, Carnival’s *Hanoi: 3 Days Ninh Binh, Ha Long & Lan Ha Bay 5-Star Cruise* does day one at Hoa Lu, a boat through the Trang An caves and about 500 steps up to the Mua Cave viewpoint, with a hotel night in Ninh Binh; day two is the bus to Tuan Chau and a night on board with the cave by bamboo boat; day three is a kayak and brunch. From $220 (checked November 2026) with all transfers. It is good value, but it is one night on the bay, not two.
